Nichol Skaggs is a self-taught artist and photographer whose work explores the quiet mysteries found in nature, mythology, symbolism, and the spaces between what we see and what we feel. Guided by curiosity and intuition, she creates paintings that invite viewers to slow down, look a little longer, and discover something new with each encounter.

Painting, photography, music, and dance have always been part of Nichol's life. Her creative career began behind the camera, where she spent many years as a concert and fashion photographer in Grand Rapids, Michigan, working with modeling agencies, actors, venues, and magazines. Her photography led her to New York City, where Rolling Stone magazine recognized her work and accepted her as a freelance concert photographer. Over the years she photographed artists including Prince, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Santana, KISS, No Doubt, Tori Amos, Kid Rock, and Billy Squier.

Rather than beginning with a finished image in mind, Nichol allows each painting to unfold one layer at a time. Organic forms, flowing movement, and hidden symbolism emerge naturally throughout the process, often revealing connections she didn't anticipate when she first touched brush to canvas.

Nature remains her greatest teacher. A pattern in a leaf, the rhythm of the seasons, an old myth, a line of poetry, or the way light transforms an ordinary moment can become the starting point for a painting. Influenced by artists such as Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Hilma af Klint, and the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, she is continually inspired by the relationship between beauty, intuition, and the natural world.
